  • NYSAR: Sprinklers should be a consumer's choice not mandated.

Governor Cuomo signs NYSAR-supported fire sprinkler legislation

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation that requires builders of one- and two-family homes to provide buyers with information on the installation of automatic sprinkler systems. NYSAR strongly supported this legislation, as the decision to install fire sprinklers should be a consumer choice.

New York’s REALTORS® have long supported disclosure and transparency in the real estate transaction. The purchase or construction of a home for many is one of the largest financial commitments they will ever make. Requiring builders to provide potential buyers with accurate information on the costs and benefits of installing fire sprinklers is an appropriate and responsible way to ensure consumers are fully aware and informed about their building decisions.
